ABF2ASE File Description & Installation

Installing the ABF2ASE.EXE File

Describing the System
The ABF2ASE.EXE is an archive file that contains three files which, when accessed from within the ASE scoring program or by its own self-supporting program, allows the user to access any registered Australian Bridge player, by name or by registration number. You should note that the player data do not include any masterpoint details or totals. If such details are required, you should use the NATIONAL file package instead.

Before attempting to "unpack" the file, we strongly recommend that you locate and delete any older versions of the files listed below you may have on your disk.

Installing the Files
To "unpack" the file, simply click on START, RUN, BROWSE, then locate and click on the ABF2ASE.EXE file and click OK. Once the program has "unpacked" itself, you should have the three files, listed below, in your folder.

Note that once you have verified the integrity of the the unpacked files, you may safely delete the ABF2ASE.EXE file.

  ABF.FIL
CLUB.LST
ABFFIND.EXE
The player database file
The club database file
The stand-alone application program

Using the Files as a Stand-Alone System
The stand-alone program actually requires a fourth file, ABF.NDX. This file will be created automatically the first time the program runs. However, it is important that you ensure that any old abf.ndx files have been removed from the folder before running the program. Otherwise, a new and useable .NDX file will not be created.
To start the program, click on START, RUN, BROWSE, then locate and click on the ABFFIND.EXE file and follow the instructions.

Using the Database Files from within ASE
Assuming that you have already installed ASE on your computer, you must place the three database files (ABF.FIL, ABF.NDX* and CLUB.LST) in the \ASE\MASTERS folder.
*If the .NDX file is missing, you will have to run ABFFIND.EXE first to create a such a file (see the paragraph of the Stand-Alone System above)

Then open the ASE program, enter the "Names" directory, the "Files" directory and when the "Masterfile Selection" prompt appears, type: ABF. The ASE will now use the ABF file system as its source database
