APPENDIX F - DOWNLOADING THE NATIONAL FILES
National.exe
This is a self-extracting "archive" file which contains the following
eleven files, each of which will then be extracted from NATIONAL.EXE when the
program is run.
- NATIONAL.TXT the player details file
- NATIONAL.NDX numerical index for the above
- NATIONAL.CLB the club details file
- ALTERNAT.TXT alternate member' details
- NAT4WIN.EXE a windows program
- NAT4DOS.EXE the DOS alternative to NAT4WIN
- NAT_FIND.COM a DOS search utility program
- NAT_SORT.COM a DOS sort utility program
- HISTORY.TXT - contains the awards and the associated code names.
- EVENT_NAMES.TXT - real names of the events, linked to the codes in awards.txt.
- PRE82.TXT - details of player December 1981 red point totals, part of which
can be treated as gold. For further details, see the footnotes in section
1.8.
To install these files you should do as follows:
- Create a folder on your C drive, titled ABF
- Download NATIONAL.EXE to this folder.
- Click onto <Start>, then <Run>, and then <Browse>.
- Locate and click on NATIONAL.EXE and then on <OK>.
After the eleven files have been extracted you should check the dates of the
.txt and .ndx files to ensure that you have the latest versions.
National.arj, National.a01 & National.a02
These are also "archive" files, however you also need ARJ.EXE to do the file extraction. A copy of
this program can be downloaded from the Centre's website.
The three files contain exactly the same files as NATIONAl.EXE. This version exists so users can copy each file
onto its own floppy disc, then do the file extraction onto another computer later.
The file extraction can be carried out by either of the following methods:
i) Automatic Installation
- Create a folder on your C drive, titled ABF.
- Download the three NATIONAL files, ARJ.EXE, and NATSETUP.BAT to this folder.
- Click onto <Start>, then <Run>, and then <Browse>.
- Locate and click on NATSETUP.BAT and then on <OK>.
The three NATIONAL files will now be unpacked, placing the eleven files into
your ABF folder.
ii) Manual installation
- Create a folder on your C drive, titled ABF.
- Download the three files, ARJ.EXE, and NATSETUP.BAT to this folder.
- Click onto <Start>, then <Run>, and then <Browse>.
- Go to the ABF folder, type ARJ E /VA NATIONAL, then click <OK>.
The three NATIONAL files will now be unpacked, placing the eleven listed files
into your ABF folder.
